For the universities in Japan to develop educational and study activities as the world’s top level universities, keen competition amongst them based on evaluations of third parties is important. The 21st Century COE Program is strongly supported by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology in the interest of forming foundations for the highest level of education in the world, improving the level of study and fostering creative human resources that can lead the world.
The “Creation of a Base of Nano-Vision Science” program being promoted by Shizuoka University innovates “image engineering” by utilizing “photonic/electronic nano-domain control,” and aims at the creation of a base for a new academic field of “nano-vision science”. Individual “photonic/electronic nano-domain controls” are being introduced into image engineering ahead of the rest of the world and are the means for creating a new academic field of “nano-vision science” consisting of nano-fluorescent material laser emission, detection of noiseless solid elements in photons, photon operation in nano-space and a host of other discoveries that are completely change conventional studies.
The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology implements a “Support Program for Distinctive University Education (Distinctive Good Practice)” and “Support Program for Contemporary Education Needs (Contemporary Good Practice)” in order to identify revolutionary efforts by universities towards the qualitative improvement of education, provide wide-ranging information and financial support, and promote educational reform. At Shizuoka University, the efforts of Faculty of Informatics, Faculty of Engineering, and Faculty of Agriculture have been selected for the Distinctive GP and Contemporary GP.
