About 11,000 students are studying at Shizuoka University. International exchange is actively promoted and about 300 foreign students are also learning here. And, in addition, the students of our university aggressively take part in exchanges with collaborating universities.
If you are a student leaning at a collaborating university, you can study at Shizuoka University for a half to one year without having to pay tuition.
Shizuoka University has six faculties. If you want to study abroad at Shizuoka University, you must first take a test for foreign students to Japan. The subject matter of the test differs according to each faculty. Ask the admissions office to send you the “Guidelines for Admission of Privately Funded Foreign Applicants” and see the qualifications for applicants. Lessons are given by the faculties in Japanese for a four-year period.
Shizuoka University has eight graduate schools.

[About research student system]
If you are recognized as a graduate from a university faculty or having an academic ability higher than this, you can be a research student. However, you cannot obtain a degree. You can study and research your specialized subject for about half a year or 1 year under the guidance of a professor at our university. To be a research student, it is necessary to find a professor who can give guidance about the subject you want to study and get permission from him or her.
[About Japanese language proficiency]
As for master’s programs in the ”Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences”and a”Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences”, a certain level of Japanese language proficiency is required for study.
In the Faculty of Engineering” and a “Graduate Schoolof Engineering”, you can study in English in some lessons, but lessons and research are done in Japanese in principle.
In doctorate programs, you can do research activities in English. In any case, Japanese language is the main language in daily life.
Privately funded foreign students (undergraduate, graduate) must pay the tuition fees.
When going through the admission process, you must pay the total amount (549,900yen) of both the admission fee and the tuition fee for a half year. If the tuition fee is revised while you are a student, the new tuition fee is applied from the time of revision.
If a student runs into difficulty paying the tuition fee due to compelling reasons after being admitted to our university, we will examine the student’s results of study and economic status upon his or her request and may waive half or all of the tuition fees.
