Blessed with a natural environment and serving as a distribution hub to the east and west mass-consumption areas of Tokyo and Nagoya, Shizuoka Prefecture has developed various industries with regional characteristics.


The local area has a prosperous tourism industry that exploits nearby hot springs and representative landscapes of Japan. Shizuoka Prefecture is now promoting the Eco-Town Project to making better use of new sources of energy such as wind power, etc.

Shizuoka Prefecture is now promoting the Pharmavalley Project aimed at R&D and integration of the world’s most advanced medical care centered around the Prefectural Cancer Center.

The Makinohara Highland on which the Mt. Fuji Shizuoka Airport is located is a large tea producing area where the tea gardens are some of the largest in the Far East. Upstream along the Oi River, there are beautiful and valuable natural resources such as the Southern Alps. Shizuoka Prefecture is now proceeding with efforts to promote the development and integration of new industries and regional agriculture by taking geographical advantage of the airport.
